I find that, in games like Reach, and Halo 4, the number of female spartans I observe is much more likely to be representative of how many girls are playing the game. And it appears to be a small number. On the same token, if everyone playing an MMO were their real gender, it would look like all of the women were abducted. Granted I've heard of girls who play as boys to avoid the usual "look its a girl!" attention. I expect that over time girls will be come more accepting of video games and the proportions might start to even out. Maybe it will eventually stabilize at something like 30% female 70% male, of course that all depends on the type of game.

 • Wait so you find that the amount of girls playing online is accurate to the amount of female avatars? I have lots of friends and they mostly choose to be girls for their own reasons. I personally find it weird but what ever. I can't give any excuses to my little brothers about this phenomena so they think those guys are all perverts. I guessed its just the way it is unfortunately. On mmo's I get tricked all the time. It's sad. I usually spend more time talking to girls IRL and this virtual stuff really throws me off. :/

 • I mean in games like Halo, not MMO's. In Halo 4 and in Reach you can barely tell the difference between male and female, its subtle. In those games, my observation is very few people have a female avatar, and that it is probably more representative to the female population. That's limited to Reach, and 4 though, and also my observation isn't exactly the most scientific. Perhaps there should be a study done, showing the proportion of female avatars to male avatars in online games with respect to increases in "eye candy." Perhaps adjusted with what is believed to be the actual female population.

 • Haha in halo reach I could definitely tell who was what gender. I halo four I can only tell because of the really skinny arms. I haven't seen many female avatars in halo 4 but before Reach was scratched beyond repair me I saw female avatars everywhere. I suppose it really is a small thing any way but its really the only thing that gets to me as far as customization goes.
