An observation I have made about depression

Some of you may already be aware of this but it has just recently come to my attention. People will often look to others in times of need, depression is certainly a time where help is needed. But what I've realised is that talking to someone about your depression really has no benefit. At least, not in my eyes. An example. I have a female friend of which I consider to be like a sister. We have that sort of brotherly-sisterly connection. I have once opened up to her properly before but I don't think it really helped overall. It was good to get it off my chest but she couldn't really help. So if I were to completely open up about how I feel, what could she do? Nothing. Her words wouldn't fix how I feel. Not everything. So opening yourself up to someone to show them the real you when your are really really low does nothing but expose yourself. You have to trust them to not tell others (an issue I struggle with) and yet you feel the same. So what's the point really? Like I said, getting it off your chest feels great but it is a small pro compared to all of the cons. So depression is kind of an unbeatable force, isn't it?

The only person that can truly help you with depression, is yourself. Other people can help you help yourself, but you can't rely on others for something you need to fight yourself. You have to remember it's own body, your own thoughts, emotions, actions, etc, the only person that can fight off an illness within (well, there's some exceptions), is you. You can't let it consume you. EDIT: You know how some people say, "You are your own worst enemy", I truly believe that statement is true for some, if not, most of us. We can honestly beat ourselves down to the dirt. The trick is, you can't let that part of you win. If you believe this depression is unbeatable, it will be. If you give yourself the power to hurt you so much mentally, you will. You have to realize you're doing this to yourself, and begin to work on it.
