Can a PC be built for under $300

Alright, I want to build a PC to play some games on for about $300 (preferably less). I'm not really needing a high end device, most of the games I play probably won't be to taxing. Some of the ones I'd want would be... -Empire: Total War -Age of Empires 3 -Portal 2 I've not played video games on computers very much, but I have a bit in the past. I don't think I need an expansive computer for what I want. What do you think?

  • Threw this together, should be able to run all of that. Costs $350 (including OS). If you already have an OS on a disc at home, you've got another $40 to spend on parts. I'd put it into a better APU.

    • I'm not sure if you would be able to assemble a computer brand new on that budget. Perhaps if you bought used you might be able to. Either way, you would be stuck with integrated graphics which might be good enough for those games (HD 4000 is Intel's version on their CPUs). However, keep in mind that it does not have RAM or and storage installed on it (you have to buy those separately which pushes you closer to $400). Look for integrated graphics because you certainly won't be getting a graphics card that is going to help you with that budget.

No, $300 is starting point, but if you spend your money wisely you can get good value parts.

      • you won't be able to play portal 2 decently on a $300 pc, $300 would be a PC with the power of a tablet.

        • At that price, I'm pretty sure you don't save money by building the PC. 300$ tends to be the price of a basic everyday use PC.
