I was once woken up to a buzzing noise over my head whilst living in Scuffletown. When I opened my eyes to investigate, I saw a black blur quivering in the corner, and not thinking much of it, turned back over to sleep a few minutes longer. Then my brain caught up with the image and I whipped back around to see that it was a fly, caught in a web, being wrapped up by a Black Widow. I screamed, because I am terrified of spiders, then shouted for my dad to come take care of it.
Well, he is just as scared as I am and he decided spraying it with hairspray would do the trick. Needless to say, I was too freaked out to go back to sleep and decided to go downstairs and eat some breakfast, relieved that danger had passed. After 15 minutes had passed, I decided to check and make sure the Widow was indeed dead, only to find it hobbling back out of the hole from whence it came at the meeting of my wall and ceiling. It never occurred to me that spiders could survive such chemical abuse and I was scared once again.
However, I mustered up all the courage I could....muster.....and grabbed the floor scraper leaning against my wall, turned the handle towards the spider, and struck. The little bastard died and we confirmed its identity after a close inspection of the squished exoskeleton.
It's a shame the fly died, such short lifespans to begin with.
