TL;DR
Given the increasingly worrisome control mechanisms console-makers and producers want to put on gamers, I put it to BUNGiE to keep the soul of gaming pure. Put the players first. We are your heart and lifeblood. The strength of BUNGiE is the community, and the strength of the community is BUNGiE. It's symbiotic.
Gather close brethren, for upon the delicate precipice we stand. Harken my words, for these future years shall define our fandom. We are minions via choice. (or in some cases, addictive eggrolls) Our voices chant by the chorus of thousands to the steady heartbeat of our BUNGiE masters and the world trembles beneath our feet. But lo, I ask of you now to cast backwards your gaze upon the rugged path we have tred to come to journey's apex. Our Golden Age is upon us, but the wicked foe is at the door. Tis this knife's edge that I shall now cast your gaze upon.
In times ancient and grizzled, our lords and masters bespoke unto us "We make the games we want to play." A Tru7h amidst the darkness. The world was yet nascent beneath our armored feet when their promise became reality. They looked unto the void and wrought perfection amid the chaos. Not once. Not twice. But a veritable host of enticing titles that sparked our imagination and set a controller in our hands. You know their names among the legends of old: Marathon, Myth, Oni... Halo. Names that resound within the 7 chambered heart of any true BUNGiE minion.
But how, I put to you, has BUNGiE ensnared us so fully? What devilish adhesive substance do they coat their game disks with that render us unable to remove said game from our consoles? The answer could not be simpler.
BUNGiE games are built by gamers, for gamers.
In a universe driven by greed and profit BUNGiE stands apart as a company that puts producing a quality product ahead of getting a quick stab at our wallets. They know that with quality content comes the showers of dough and neverending affection of their fanbase. My friends, they CARE about their gamers. And in these dark days, that is a rare trait indeed.
Upon their contract with Microsoft, BUNGiE released the source code of the popular Marathon franchise, giving the power of creativity directly to the community at large. (who does that?) The result was Marathon:Rubicon, Marathon:Eternal, and hundreds of custom maps and gametypes.
In their popular Myth franchise BUNGiE allowed limited online play for trail accounts, giving new and returning players the chance to face off in one of the greatest RTTS arenas of all time. Along side the original release, BUNGiE also released the Anvil and Forge toolsets, allowing thousands of custom maps and gametypes to be created. (included a full reskin/rebuild kit called Green Beret) Who does that?
Now we once again see an independent BUNGiE on the verge of releasing a brand new IP. An IP that does not require a subscription, despite being persistent. A game created to bring the community together in an epic fight for the solar system against nigh impossible odds.
As we move forward into this brave new world, marked by next-gen consoles and revolutions in gamer inter-connectivity, I have a message for both BUNGiE and it's fans. In a world of DRM and player-impeding systems; a world of profit and greed. A world of control and statistics...
Keep putting the gamers first! Give us the freedom to play, share, learn, and join together as we wish. Give us new innovations and new gameplay. Make the games you want to play.
Sony said it best:
Long Live Play, BUNGiE. Long Live Play.

bravo! well said, Euphorius. the points you made regarding Bungie's consistent focus on building games which are fun, rich in lore and their obsessive devotion to fans is precisely why Destiny has so much potential. there is so much more to Bungie than just Halo, and I think the gaming world will acknowledge that by this time next year (I hope).
