Joe Staten Interview Notes:
They are running the demo and Joe is commenting on it.
> All Demo stuff is in engine, and it's all playable terrain apparently (if you can run out there).
> One of the first things you do in the Destiny Campaign is go to old Russia.
> They've Frontloaded everything with history.
> The best worldbuilding fills your world with questions.
> In this world we're members of a fireteam. They joined up before coming to russia
> The Fire Team is just a grouping of players that gets together to do a certain mission.
> You could take your fireteam to competitive multiplayer or other parts of the game, it's like your Party in Halo.
> Staten couldn't confirm that the ghost is voiced by Peter Dinklage, but DeeJ did. LOL.
> The Ghost is an important story character.
> Every Guardian is issued a Ghost. You'll be able to customize him as time goes on.
> Wouldn't confirm if he's a true AI or not, he's just a helpful friend.
> The weapon is a pulse rifle that fires three shot bursts
> All the Magic in this game feels kinetic and viseral.
> Race is purely an emotional cosmetic choice.
> All classes has abillities between magic.
> The tweaking between the classes makes things unique to you.
> Every class has certain abillities, but there's a lot of overlap.
> We don't want anybody to regret their class choice.
> It's all about tweaking and tuning to make it feel good to you.
> We'll be able to have several characters that grow over time and hopefully stick with you for years.
> The Hunter is Staten's Favorite Class.
> It's not just cosmetic, the armor has abillities and function.
> What's the upper limit? They're still playing with numbers to see what is good. What they demoed was 7 people, 3 fireteams.
> Wouldn't that be awesome if you could fight on that huge ship someday?
> If you wanted to I could drive around on my own little speederbike, it's a quick and easy way to get around, you can conjure it out of ether
> Your ship is your storage.
> Compared to Reach, what kind of feel did you want? Our goal is to make sure anybody who can pick up the controller have fun, if you have baseline skill you can help out. If you are really good, then you can show your skill.
> It's also making sure that when you enter the living world that you can choose what you want to do. Do you want to be competitive, cooperative, solo, team player? It's all in the context of this same world, you can run into players doing their own thing. There are activity for every mood you're in.
> Asking about multiplayer events now. If I see a guy, can I ask him to ping up? Absolutely.
> There are private spaces and public spaces. In private spaces it's just you and your fire team, in public spaces it's everyone. They want to tempt people with social opportunities. Like flies to meat they're going to draw players in it will be delicious (somebody remix that shit).
> Question about vehicles: There's private speeder, private spaceship... the spaceship is primarily to get you from the city to the wild. The Sparrow (temporary name) is the name of either the ship or the speeder?
> Asking about the PC. They'd love to be on as many platforms as possible, but they're not talking about the PC right now.
> They're excited about getting it to everybody with their big talented team.
> Asking about the story, in Destiny, it doesn't seem like it's a monolithic campaign, in terms of trackign a story, is that more about building your story by taking scattered missions or is it about investigating a greater galactic truth?
> How about a little of both? They love narrative, they love linear cinematic story, but that's just one part of Destiny, there's a little bit for everyone.
> They are targeting 2014 for the release.

You have never spoken to Joe Staten in your life
-
There is grounds for a law suite here about the playable terrain. Or it's no wonder staten quit who would want to be a part of one of the biggest lies in gaming history?

Edited by Overlord2009: 10/1/2014 9:55:04 PMReading this sounds exactly like the game we got, what am I missing? Except the being able to run everywhere thing.
-
I'd kinda like to do more with our spaceships. Maybe in a way like GTA Online did with Apartments. Give you the ability to roam around in it and invite friends etc. Then in future games allow them to be in space battles. Maybe something similar to the combat in Reach.

this game could have been tremendous...instead it's just blah....i keep thinking about the original vision of destiny and all that could have been. that game could have become legend....instead we get this watered down version that while playing when my GF says "honey i need you to help with blah blah blah" i have not problem dropping the controler. i was really looking for a reason to break up with her and the original vision of destiny was the basket i put all those eggs into. don't get me wrong for some reason i don't understand i keep playing it over and over agian at the same time thinking "wow this is really boring" or "what is the story/reason behind this particular event i'm doing". remember grape drink and grape juice look the same and sometimes taste the same but they are not the same formula. right now destiny is grape drink and the original vision is the grape juice i salavate for.

Don't forget.
-
2014 can't come fast enough.
-
Incredible. Apologies for digging up an old thread, but it's really interesting to look back at this and draw comparisons on what the game was like then to what it has become now.

YOU FRESH DAWG
-
LOVE YA HYLEBOS

Hey come check out our pre-destiny clan!! Here's the link: http://vanguardians.enjin.com/home We welcome you with open arms! Please make sure to give a shout out to Corrosive Honor for getting you there! Chancellors names appear in red on the site so feel free to ask them any questions you may have!
-
Maybe this has been answered somewhere else, but are the servers going to be cross-platform?
-
Fantastic man, I was so relieved (yet not surprised) that we can have more than one character.
-
Seems very Borderlands-esct. Which is a good thing. Have they cleared up whether you actually fly your ship or not? Thanks for taking the notes.
-
I can't wait to hear full details on the spaceship and ghost.
-
Being reluctant to answer who voiced the Ghost could hint that the ghost may have different voices. That's reasonably skeptical, right?
-
Wow, you're a fag.
-
This hype is going to make me get an Xbox One so I can have a better experience (I know they're favoring the PS4, but my friendbase is Xbox-centric when it comes to gaming).
-
That,s reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally long, minus 1 'e', lol!!
-
Great info
-
thxks for info

Nice notes. Even I learned some new stuff ;)
> They've Frontloaded everything with history.
That's one of my favorite features of Bungie games.
-
Staten couldn't confirm that the ghost is voiced by Peter Dinklage, but DeeJ did. LOL.
Let's interview DeeJ everyday, phone him, make pressure... so we could have other tasty news ^_^
-
Thanks for writing this up very informative.
-
Yep! As could be hoped for, the experience is being confirmed to be as flexible as possible to accommodate as many types of players as possible. I love that. It means my community is going to grow even more once I get on PS4.
