The Entertainment Software Association, the company which owns and operates the E3 Expo, called the Los Angeles Police Department today in an attempt to shut down Ouya’s public presence at E3 2013.
Julie Uhrman, founder of the Ouya console, informed IGN that the police visit was just another event in an ongoing conflict with the ESA. Ouya had their console on display in a lot across the street from the Los Angeles Convention Center, which is the home of E3. But at 9am this morning, the ESA rented out the spaces in front of Ouya’s display and parked semi-trucks in them in what Uhrman felt was an attempt to block people from noticing Ouya’s presence.
In response, the Ouya team rented the spots in front of the ESA’s trucks and used the spaces to display various Ouya banners. After this action, Uhrman claims that the ESA called the police. Soon after, the LAPD showed up at the lot and asked to see the company’s permits. After determining that everything was in order, the cops ultimately left without taking any further action.
Urhman feels that Ouya is being unfairly targeted due to its decision to go around the ESA and attend E3 on its own terms. Uhrman and the rest of the Ouya team intend to tackle the second day of E3 2013 by increasing their street team presence. She also reached out to the ESA in an attempt to resolve the dispute, but has yet to hear back. When asked how she’ll react if the ESA continues putting pressure on Ouya, Uhrman responded, “If ten more trucks show up, we’ll come up with another idea. I have a few up my sleeve.”
We reached out to the ESA for comment and are waiting to hear back.
That's a dick move by the ESA.
-
What kind of hot dogs are "ouya"?
-
The Ouya is such a piece of crap

Look man, if Ouya wants to attend E3, it won't kill them to pay the price to be a part of what the ESA has in place. This is Ouya being a bunch of self-centered pricks, thinking they are in the right by using the attraction of E3, without paying the same prices all of the other devs and publishers had to pay to participate in the event. Honestly, who do they think they are, pulling a stunt like this? That's just rude, freeloading off of all the hard work that is given to make E3 happen, and they think they have a right to avoid paying the ESA, the people that worked hard to make E3 an enjoyable and amazing convention, but still get the same attention as Sony or Microsoft? No man, -blam!- them. They are the ones pulling a dick move here. If you want customers, then get in line, and pay up. E3 isn't free, it takes a lot of people putting in a lot of work to make it happen, and Ouya is just taking advantage of that hard work like a bunch of conceited asshats.

I like how there are still independent console makers. Mad props on this system.

I love that the only people around the Ouya are the 2 cops and the guy that took the picture.
Was an attempt to block people from noticing Ouya’s presence.
And it's not like seeing the thing is going to make a difference anyway. Most people are not going to buy a console so they can play phone games.
-
That console is so doomed. LOL!
-
A bit ironic that E3 started out as a display in the parking lot of the Consumer Electronics Show when video games were unpopular.
-
It was already funny that they were setting up outside in the parking lot but this just takes the cake.
-
can some one give me the summary on why they are in conflict in the first place? I don't really know much about Ouya.

Edited by Pfhortnite: 6/12/2013 11:22:08 PMI laughed after I found out that they actually did that, but at least they're trying.
