They help the future by passing down knowledge that they have acquired throughout the years as well as the material that they are taught. Without teachers, there would not be that much progress in the world, or it would be extremely slow progress.
Teachers are one of the world's most rewarding, yet underpaid jobs that someone will strive for. It's a passion, because teaching doesn't really bring in the money.
True or false?

Good teachers...

As a teacher, I can only agree to some degree. We aren't the end all be all. And as with any profession, we don't all meet the bar of quality. It really is a tough line of work though, hardly any respect, low pay, and lots of work. The ones that love doing it are the best though, and I guess that's really the key with any line of work. Just think back to when you were in school, how the kids treated teachers. It isn't easy to enjoy your work, and it can be hard to make yourself be the best when the only interaction you have is a negative reaction from those you are trying to help.

Totally agree.

Unfortunately some people don't realise there's so much more to it than just rocking up at 8:30, making up some shit for a few hours and going home at 3:00.

My Teacher Touched me.... Gave me a pat on the pack and said easy A.
-
Some people learn better on their own, but for the masses they are useful.
-
Autodidacticism. Teachers aren't 100% useful.
-
No. The schooling system is inefficient and ridiculous in almost every sense. And teachers are obsolete.
-
False, I pretty much taught myself everything throughout my educational career. If anything, the people who write well organized textbooks are the more useful members of humanity.
-
Mostly true.
-
Agree. Although they are somewhat underpaid, not as much as you would think when you take into account the weekends, holidays, and a near full summer vacation.
-
Thanks, I guess. I'm a math tutor.

Edited by ChallenherX: 6/16/2013 4:29:56 AMNot American teachers. And a public service shouldn't be doing it for money, but for the good of it.

Edited by Ilogical Logic: 6/16/2013 1:41:20 AMTeaching in a nutshell -one of the most important jobs in the country -requires you to grade tests and tests which can take away days or weeks out of your life (especially if you teach english or history) -Not everyone can teach well -teachers are sometimes incredibly under appreciated -teachers get paid a crap amount of money for what they do, even really good teachers
-
True, when the teacher tries.
-
False, most of the teachers in my life have been incompetent.
-
I disagree
-
They're important, yet still aren't as important as engineers.
-
I agree completely.
-
Entirely true.
-
Loving people are the most important members of humanity.

Until they join a union

And yet we are cutting funding to education more and more to the bone. We are at the point where teachers are making paper protractors because they can't afford them for the class and can't make the students buy them anymore. We teach students how to pass tests, blazing over dozens of subjects, without ever teaching them anything or letting any of the information sink in. We crowd more and more students into classrooms and expect conditions to improve from this. We spend more money on students than most of Europe yet are nearing the bottom for education. We are developing a whole generation of adults who are going to be incompetent for the most basic of jobs for middle class existence.
-
Very true, indeed.
-
True. Without teachers, we would have no collective knowledge.
