Or at least let the NSA spy on you.
A report published by The New York Times and citing people who asked not to be named for obvious reasons, Skype developed its own user-monitoring system before the Microsoft acquisition in October 2011.
It appears that US intelligence agencies have insisted that local software companies must cooperate closer with the NSA, so it asked several top vendors, including Skype, to put together secret teams to develop systems that would provide them with backdoor access to users’ conversations.
Put on those tin foil hats, I hear Kinect can read your thoughts too.
I know I'm kind of making a joke about it but I think this is what people were worried about with the XB1.
How does this make you feel?
-
I'll be here, preparing my living room with ornamentations that'll look dangerous and cover myself in grease. I'll develop a mad rabble and look insane. This should attract them to my house.
-
I'd set up a pretend crazy lab with all sorts of gizmos and dangerous looking items with fake labels and turn on my Xbox 1 in the same room just to see if a black van would eventually park itself on my street. Except I'm buying a PS4.
-
I wish I was getting an XB1, I'd just stare at the camera all day every day.... not really. but it's be funny.
-
If they want to watch me play games, sleep, eat, and set up plans for destroying America and assassinating political leaders to further bring down the entire world in the glorious name of my god, so be it.
-
Do you REALLY think M$ can't find a little system in skype? REALLY? It's M$, one of the largest software companies in the world for crying out loud. Wake up and see a little reality. If some podunk little website "knows" about this, don't you think Microsoft does too?
-
I dont use skype.
-
I'm in the UK, not having to worry about the NSA. What are they gonna do, learn my sleeping patterns (haha, as if I have a pattern) and find out what music I listen to while I game? Conspuruseh! Conspuruseh errywear!
-
"Nah, those terrorists are not going to change our way of life!"
-
I have to laugh at the people who think the government got nothing better to do then to spy on random teenagers playing video games. Obviously they're only going to use this within good reason.
-
Anybody that is really worried about this crap is a complete moron. Enough freaking said. Go away
-
-
I'm not using Skype so it doesn't bother me. Doesn't mean I approve but...
-
If they want to see me walking around my dorm room in my underwear then they have my permission.
-
I for one am not buying an xbox one. And I might move to Uruguay to flee the current happenings.
-
I plan to give them a show
-
Oh, hey! Another misleading title!
Skype developed its own user-monitoring system before the Microsoft acquisition in October 2011.
-
Microsoft needs to make that giant Doomsday Dish on the moon somehow, guys.
-
not exactly news, it was leaked with the monitoring scandal

Good. I want them to watch.
-
They're weclome to. But, I'm not buying the Xbone, so I'm alright.
-
They do know... that a lot of computers come with a camera and bult in mic right? So if they are trying to watch us then they are probably doing it right now. I feel sorry for the guy who has to sit infront of a screen watching some guy watch p.rn... What's stupid is if they do this to a game console, what do they expect to get out of it? Do they want to watch our reactions while we play video games?
-
I'm totally sure Microsoft's grand master plan was to watch overweight 20-something year olds play Halo for eight hours in their underwear...
-
I don't see why the government has to do (spy/have access to every conversation) it. It is also disappointing Skype actually went along with it. I'm personally not affected by it but that doesn't mean I support it.
