I will be brief, yet stern and hopefully informative towards Bungie employees.
A 3-man fireteam is not a large enough group maximum in a world that utilizes the MMO elements of a common Hub and Public Zones.
If the expectation of the common Hub is to bring Guardians together in order to venture out in teams, a small team size would force players to play with a smaller group of individuals, be it friends or strangers. Expanding on this, many players have more than three friends who will be playing this game. Even if they do not, these players will choose to play with these new people, and no one else.
Therefore, I propose that maximum limit be raised to a 6-man fireteam. With 6 people, the number of strangers and friends cooperatively playing together rises, meaning more people will mingle with other people and hopefully expand the potential amount of new friends within the group, which would then further expand.
A larger fireteam will also make teamwork far more enjoyable with a larger amount of enemies on the screen or in the area. If it's an issue with enemy content in an area, then utilize a private zone difficulty meter that changes according to how many players are in one area. More players = more enemies.
This is just a maximum number and is not mandatory. People can still travel around with 4 or whatever they prefer, but if this group of 4 jumps into a public space, and another guardian wishes to join, the option should be made available. This is one decision I will stand firm on, please make me believe you listen to your fans, and change the number of the fireteam to 6 maximum, for the sake of branching friendship and group enjoyment.

By looking at this photo, in the top right corner where it says "squad" you can see the current number of people at "3/6" this is leading me to believe it possible to have 2 fireteams in or out of public events, with a total of 6 friends. so yes three will be the primary number for a Fireteam, however squads can be interplayed to allow 2 Fireteams to join up.

Part of me thinks that Bungie just gave us a number in the mail sack to sit and watch the community squirm. They are the kings of false answers and misguided speculation. Until I actually see it in action and have the game tell me that I can't form a bigger team, I'm holding back any angst about the situation.

I don't know why everyone feels like they have to suggest to Bungie how to make their game before we even really know how it works. 1. The public doesn't know how the game works yet. 2. THEY'RE BUNGIE. It's only a studio filled with a bunch of OCD nerds that don't settle for anything but the absolute best. Which is good. They made the award-winning Halo franchise, which in my opinion, used to be the best games of all time. We can trust them with Destiny. They're too smart to mess up.

Edited by MasterBarek: 7/8/2013 1:30:22 AMHonestly, I think your reaction might be just a bit hasty. We have only been given a brief glimpse of this universe and and have gleaned just a small sliver of understanding. I think it best to be be patient and understand more about the game. I will say I am curious to understand why they settled on 3. As it has been pointed out many times in this post, it certainly does break convention...but Bungie has always been good about creating new ones.

I prefer a four member group. I have three good friends I play with and we are all incredibly excited for Destiny. We play a lot of Borderlands 2 and it worked perfect for our little group. I'm hoping that Bungie would at least take a bit of a cue from this and bump up the team count. If not however, hopefully they make it easy for the odd man out to be able to play with friends and not say take loot or experience away by tagging an enemy first like old school MMO's. It would also be really nice if the four of us could experience story moments together too, always fun to hear people panicking all at once as a giant enemy charges the field of battle or drops from the sky.
-
Three is such a weird party size. Should probably be four to match up with standard conventions.
-
Yeah, I have to agree. The 3-count is a bit restrictive, unless there was a way fire teams could form a 'raid group' without sacrificing xp or gameplay, but 5 would be the perfect match! If that DOES affect gameplay difficulty, enough enemies to go around, etc. then hopefully difficulty increases with each person in the vicinity that is engaged (like Diablo, perhaps).
-
I think 5 team members is optimal when going against large groups it allows a lot of different strategies
-
I completely agree with this article. I have more than two friends I wish I be in a fire team with, so the three player limit is to constricting.
-
I like a smaller, more intimate team. Makes collaboration an tactics more important.
-
I think 3 is fine. And that is just your personal fire team, you can join with other fireteams so 3 isn't really the limit anyhow...
-
well, I planned not to make fire team, I plan to make squad of 14 people, or a Battalion of 1400 man...... so we can make a group like Delta Force, SAS, or Navy SEALs DevGru.....
-
You know, I keep reading about these threads to increase the maximum player count, but wouldn't 6 already be too large to be considered a fireteam?
-
Have they said the max is three?
-
Yes...what people fail to realize is this destroys the competative aspect...only have 3 people that cna join with you...that is horrible
-
I just want to play with my 7 man team known as Zombie Colony.
-
3 is nice and 4 wouldn't be a problem. No more than that IMO. Missions would get too easy with too many people.
-
I feel like 3 is a really nice number for it. I would not mind it being raised to 4, but no further. Past that, it becomes kill stealing, and rushing. Not to mention division of experience gain.

Edited by TDGnet: 6/23/2013 1:26:45 AMMore people can join in public zones! Did you not see at E3? I think there was 8 players in the Public Event, meaning 2 fireteams of 3 and one FT of 2. The limit of 3 is only in private zones, it will be much higher I'm sure in Public places. I am not totally disagreeing with what you are saying though... I think although there are only 3 classes it would be nice to have up to 6 players in private zones, however that is only if the consoles can handle it. If this compromises the quality of the game in any way they should just stick to 3.
-
They already told us that the max size was six people, and the fact that you don't know this only goes to show that you did no research and just assumed it was only 3 because that's what you saw in the e3 demo. You aren't stupid. Just ignorant

I don't care for a fire team i lone wolf it all the way
