Nintendo needs to market to adults

This is not an attack on Nintendo; in fact, they're my favorite of the Big Three. The problem is that all of their games treat you like a child. You can't get through the first quarter of any of their first-party games without stopping seemingly every few minutes for the 'guide' character to explain what is in this particular room, how to use your weapons or tools, why the bad guys are bad, etc. They just assume that you have no idea what you're doing. Now, I'm not suggesting that they make it a Dark Souls-esque game where they just throw you in and let you die dozens of times just to figure out how to win, but this crap needs to stop. I just started playing Skyward Sword last night and had to walk away from the game because I got fed up with their annoying gibberish dialog, insufferably childish characters, and being told what to do and where to go literally every time I entered a new room. This type of handholding is not conducive to gaming and makes it impossible (and meaningless) to explore. So yeah, that's it. I want to see Nintendo games that don't treat me like a baby.

  • hmmm, I wonder if adults buy Nintendo for their kids. Couldn't it be argued that Nintendo is the only company that markets to adults and families? Were as "Adult Games" are really just marketed to one audience the male teen/college kids? Like this, sure I wanna play Hostel part 8 with my manly adultness, but my wife, kids, mom, aunt, dad, whomever... probably just want to race mario carts and shit. Funny how adult rated things are really for males ages 13-35 and really not many other demographics.
