I'm setting out to remedy a likely deficiency in the body of my readings, which is a distinct lack of female authors. I'm aware that I'm probably doing this for the wrong reason, but what the hell, this is something I'm comfortable doing for the plain old dumb reason that it's politicaly correct. That and I'm curious.
I've started with something I've had my eye on for a while: Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea Quartet. So far I'm enjoying it. She's an excellent writer. Deft, even. But that's expected, given her reputation.
So this is a general call for names: female authors who write fantasy or Sci-fi, or anything surreal or fantastic in that vein that you may know of. I'm running this through Writers Corner because in the long run it'll probably yield more serious replies.
Oh, and I'm not reading Anne McCaffrey level stuff. To be clear: No Anne McCaffrey, Raymond Feist, Robert Jordan or George R. R. Martin level dreck. Maybe that makes my request hard to help with, but if you're going to read a book it might as well be a good book.
