You'd be surprised. They think that if everyone one else is doing it then there is no harm. I know several males who have done this in real life and didn't realise it was wrong until they were called out on it; they thought it was a joke/funny conversation. Edit: Please don't think that I condone or acquit anyone like that, it is their willful ignorance that is at fault.
