Since Bungie.next was implemented, one glaring flaw has remained unfixed: the decreased functionality of private groups. While the main forums grew increasingly inactive in the months before the update, private groups played a vital role in keeping old Bungie.net members active. Like many private chapter administrators, I expected that Bungie.next would offer new features to groups that would enhance their functionality. And like many of those administrators, I am now disappointed.
Bungie.next took what was a flawed-but-functional system and stripped it of qualities that enabled groups to run smoothly. Dozens of private groups became entirely inactive because of this, while others are hovering on the brink due to inability to function under the new format.
I am therefore calling on Bungie to implement three simple changes to help private groups run "better" (meaning at least as well as before the update). They are:
1. Allow for non-administrator moderators.
2. Allow administrators to lock threads without deleting them.
and, most importantly
3. Allow us to ban users in-thread
I am severely disappointed that these features - all of which were common-sense staples of the old group system - were removed without practical alternative. Private groups deserve better than this.

Hey bungie you know those online communities called private groups they still exist just thought I'd let you know
-
Well, yeah. Achronos said that groups needed improvement. I don't think he'd say that if he weren't going to bother with it. And here's the thing: groups aren't the only thing on the agenda for the webteam. There is no magical "fit this shit" button. This is a big feature that's going to need time and a lot of proof of concept to be properly mended. This has to play nicely with parts of a game that's still in development and will likely change over time. Creating a site feature for a product that's uncertain is a pain in the ass. This is likely more complicated that we realize. Instead of asking if it's going to happen, continue to provide productive and constructive feedback and data.

Edited by TheBestTheyHad: 8/24/2013 1:51:07 AMI agree. I would like to see the groups updated and fixed as well. However I know Bungie will do amazing things with the groups. So it's worth the wait.

Edited by halo odst 117 MC: 8/22/2013 2:11:13 PMRight to the point, these features need to be brought back in.

One glaring flaw? ONE GLARING FLAW? *Has to scroll all the way f**king down in a thread because pages are absent. The scroll bar grows ever so thin.*

Well exactly one month ago, we got this:
Long answer... Soon (tm)
My definition of "soon" differs.

Edited by Mr E: 8/13/2013 10:56:07 PMlet me ask you this... if you had the chance, would you work for Bungie ?
-
I'd like to see custom titles return as well, and custom permissions.
-
Bungie/Deej does not care. As long was we pay for the next game.
-
i still don't understand why they felt the need to disembowel private groups in the first place.
-
For those who want to keep using private groups as actively as pre-update, it's really hard.
-
Damn right I agree with this. Ever since this bungie.next crap the site and all the private groups have gone downhill.
-
I agree on all of this, but to be quite frank, who the hell are you to "call upon Bungie"? I know that you have been around for awhile, but that doesnt make Bungie your ho to make booty calls on. My 2cents. Heck, bungie.old was great in my opinion, but this right here, is such low standard, I cant imagine Bungie, who has always produced wonderful product both quality wise and creativity wise, leaving it like this for so long. But, it has happened, and I hope bungie has some serious shit up their sleeves to mend their reputation so far as their site goes. Yeah, creating shit takes time, and if these new features have to be built up from the ground, I get that their is a certain process. But Shouldnt Bungie have a team dedicated to their online presence? They should have been all over it ever since bungie.new came out.

PRE-ORDER OUR GAME PLS

Edited by Seggi: 8/1/2013 4:45:20 PMWait, so private groups are still neutered, but this shit was intentional?
-
Yeah, when they're done fixing and shipping their largest game to date, they might find some time for it.
-
if it werent for sociopaths united this entire site would be dead right now seriously though, all I ask for is to get security roles back.
-
Just something I have been thinking about. I'd like to see a way to filter the publicly made threads in both the mains and the groups, perhaps another topic type labelled public. I can think of times where I was looking for a publicly made thread from a while back that in order to find it I'd sign off and go to the group so that I'd only see the public threads. Way I would like to see it work is that in the group it would filter it to where only public threads are displayed and in the mains it would display all the publicly made threads in all groups. It could also serve as another tool for recruiting, because then people would be able to see the different content in groups more easily.

Short answer... top men are on it. Long answer... Soon (tm)

Edited by VIC: 7/18/2013 5:12:53 PMThe private group I run seemed to get more active after the update. I'd like to see more features but I figure those will come with time. Can't complain.
-
Im much more focused on the freaking app crashing all the time.
-
The only thing I ask is the removal of bans from the mains counting in private groups too. Private groups are private for a reason; things I do in the mains shouldn't effect my posting privileges in private groups and vice versa.
-
Also, thread pages are necessary if using the "oldest first" method of post sorting. Large threads, and I mean LARGE, are impossible to navigate otherwise, and many definitely prefer that method over the "popular" that B.net is normally set to.
-
Definitely needs attention and needs to be fixed.
-
Yeah, I just got appointed a moderator in TFS and I want to smack people's shit.
