You literally just said it's only doing a few curls and chugging protein shakes. Sounds like you're belittling it pretty hard.

  • No, I was expressing how menial a thing it is when he used the Socrates quote to make it seem like some insurmountable feat worthy of everyone's respect. And honestly, that's about all I make of it. I never found it difficult to lift weights.

Hard work and dedication is worthy of respect. Even if its not applied to an area of life that you care about or have interest in.

  • I agree it's worthy of respect. To a certain degree. If I see someone hit an insane weight in the gym I'll have a good deal of admiration toward them, but people make it out to be so much harder than it is. Again, that doesn't mean it isn't hard. It requires effort and dedication. But not to the extent inferred from the Socrates quote. I do care about fitness. A lot. I thought you knew this. But tbh, running marathons is harder than simply having aesthetic appeal. A lot of bodybuilders are nowhere near as fit as they look.

I can respect the first part. And I didn't mean you don't care about fitness. I meant that you don't care for bodybuilding and weightlifting.
