Toggled 3rd person view in combat areas would be great, I feel it's rather disappointing to be able to customise your guardian and not be able to see him/her unless you are in the city and other non-combat areas, for those not keen they simply stay in 1st person view, a few vids I have seen show the camera perform 3rd person and it looks amazing. You think Bungie will implement this? Opinions?

Hit dance button. profit?
-
If there was an option to play in third person, everyone would pretty much have to because of the advantage it gives you.
-
It's not some stupid mmo, just like all bungie games they are going to try to immerse you in the game to much as possible. So they are not going to let you watch you character walk around...you are the character. not some invisible camera floating behind him/her. They never strive for anything less then a compelling world the they can ground you in and you can go explore the frontier.
-
I'm pretty sure they announced you being able to switch to third-person whilst being inside the tower. If that's true, i'd rather just keep it at that, combat to me is best played in first-person.
-
I would not mind seeing 3rd person view in PVE areas only. For adversarial play 3rd person would be bad, letting you peek around a corner without actually stepping around said corner.
-
I personally think the only time we're going to be in third person ( other then vehicular combat ) will be in new Russia because there will be no need to fight so it be a cool time to see your character.
-
I just don't know how that would work. I see that working in non-combat areas. I think it would be cool.
-
I think that could give an edge in PvP so I say no, stick to first person.
-
If there were a cover system is say yes. Since there isn't, no.
-
First Person all the way, just have your friend tell you how you look.
-
I choose maybe but more as a yes and know I think BUNGIE has the gaming part of games down proven in the reach to halo4 transition, 4 with its BLAM! storyline and its all over locations. so I trust that with BUNGIE working on this game for literally years! that it has had a lot of experimenting I see that it shifts in to third person for big powers like warlock grenade and titan hulk smash ability's. "GASP" that being said yes if they keep it to actions/situations like covering on a wall or hoping in to a video. but no as a general choice at any time you could zoom out and peek around corners with out leaving cover. SORRY CHEATERS
-
no room for any more actions on the controllers i think. either way not really for this because it doesn't serve any real purpose other than to check out my ass.
-
No. Having it as a cinematic thing and a distinction in the social areas is the best way to do it.
-
Man that's a good question. I just don't know...

Copy/paste from the other thread:
Personally, dropping back to 3rd person breaks immersion for me. I'd rather have the option of 1st person in vehicles, than 3rd person in combat. 3rd person combat just screams RPG. If it's been a while since you've played an MMO or RPG, go rewatch the Destiny HD Gameplay Reveal. Then, go watch some WoW gameplay. The difference is shocking. WoW looks so cheesy and gimmicky in comparison. Bungie has already stated that being able to see your badass, customized character is important. They'll make sure you get your fill of 3rd person.
Eric Osborn from Bungie answered that question in an interview a couple days ago.
MMORPG: At one point in the presentation the screen changed to a third person view, albeit briefly. Is that something we can expect to see in the game more often? Can we choose to be in third-person, or is it only during the “space magic” skill uses and other cinematic parts? Eric Osborne: The majority of combat happens in first-person. Destiny is a great first-person shooter, but we are certainly taking a lot of the things that sing for us from the RPG genre, like character creation and personalization. We believe players are really going to enjoy the deep customization offered in Destiny, so we do want to provide a lot of opportunities for people to see and show off their builds. In the demo, that happened primarily when players used some of the more powerful abilities, like the Warlock’s Nova Bomb, which breaks the camera out for a dramatic third-person view. We’re also building fully third-person social spaces, like the Tower, that we haven’t dug too deeply into just yet – places for commerce and camaraderie that provide players the perfect opportunity to put on their finest armor and gear, and strut.
i really like playing in 3rd person when there is a lot of customisation for my character, i really wish halo reach had 3rd person because i really liked the character i made and you could watch games in 3rd person with in the theater mode
