What happens after you loose a battle or get defeated.... Is there a penalty or like a simple respawn.

Anyone who thinks that perma-death would flow in Destiny should go to RuneScape and forget this game

In the gameplay demo, we saw a Hunter get killed by Rixis Archon Slayer and then revived by his Warlock friend. This tells us that there won't be a 'get to a safe place so your friend can respawn' anymore. You will have to wait until your friends finish pumping lead into aliens. But I think that is only for co-op times. In competitive multiplayer, there will probably be a respawn system but we don't yet know about death when you play by yourself.

Also adding to what your saying is it gonna be like SAO

Maybe it's like WoW and when you're in a group you either have to wait to be revived or wait until your group dies and if that happens you might have to just walk from the start of the dungeon thingy to where your team left off , and when you're playing by yourself it just sends you back to the closest respawn thing ( whatever that may be ) and you're only set back is having to walk back to where you left off and you might have to wait for you health to come back? Haha I don't know I just think it would be incredibly unfair if someone was trying to get you killed so there loot would be greater then yours The punishment for death won't be too bad because my guess is its going to be designed for more of a casual player rather so I doubt death with effect loot at all

You go to heaven, meet God (who is actually a gay atheist transgender black Puerto Rican) and get anally -blam!- until you respawn.
-
You awaken at the nearest bonfire, undead.

You respawn in Lumbridge.

Edited by Gamerfreak: 8/15/2013 8:52:55 PMI see people writing about a penalty, but think a pentalty would be kinda lame. You get in to a public event and you try to save some guys that can't handle the boss completly, in a result you die, well all of the sudden I read that you should loose or some money, or your chance on gear, or whatever. But if somewhone resurect you, then you there again, so why should that decreas your chances on a rare loot. "What the point of staying in a batle if you die once and you can't get the loot" Or do you expect we all stay behind crates wishing we stay alive forever, so that we can get nice loot. "So a penalty would make it not nicer to play, only worse. In the end if you all die does that not mean you need to start over as a group on the boss again, so if one dies that is penalty enough, cause it is a change that the group will not be ablte to take down the boss" And if you die alone in batle, well if you get resurected just outside the combat, so that you can get in again that would be nice, that keeps you playing. "otherwise it would never be fair to people that play with somebody cause they can always resurect, so respawn a just outside the batle would be nice"

In groups, you become your little "ball of light," on your own: I'd imagine a respawn at a checkpoint or something like that.
-
There should be a scaling penalty in specialized drops. For example, you are in a full fireteam and are on a bounty hunting mission. One of your friends got too drunk and keeps running ahead and dying, forcing you to revive him(or her.) When the mission is complete, the weapon drop for the drunk guy(or chick) should be a slightly lower level, or a less rare weapon. If nothing else it would keep people from going balls-out constantly and encourage use of strategy..
I might be the drunk guy
Until you are resurrected.

The game locks down and you are forced to play COD for 30 minutes to unlock it.

Did anyone else notice when the hunter in the E3 demo "died" she turned into her ghost. I cannot prove this but it did look very similar to the warlocks ghost but with a change of color. This would also explain the name "ghost" better
-
In the E3 reveal trailer it seemed like the person that died was changed into some cloud of energy, like the Promethean knights in halo 4, maybe some of the travellers technology protects you.
-
You die in real life
-
There should be a good (well-balanced) penalty. And hopefully nothing super lame like "we've taken 10 percent of your money". Considering the game is designed for casual players, I'm guessing there isn't going to be anything harsh.

Edited by ToastyWaffles: 8/13/2013 10:26:52 AMPresumably when you die, you respawn back at the nearest Hub. However, you lose all the loot gained from your latest adventure. The only way to get that loot back is to traverse to where you died and pick up your loot again (and defeat the enemy). This way you can deter people from dying without royally screwing them.

No now you have to fight against the yin yang as you fight for the chance to be revived

This has already been answered here: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post?id=61363108&path=1 Have a surreal day..

I think the energy of the traveler can revive you.
-
I died after he spelled "lose" incorrectly. That's when my Fireteam revived me.
-
I hope when you really die (don't get revived by another guardian) you spawn at the major city on that planet and you lose money not a lot just enough where you wouldn't want that happen again.
