Google searches lead to FBI visit?

Article
According to one family, a confluence of run-of-the-mill Google searches led to an unwelcome visit by police. Michele Catalano, a professional writer, describes what happened in a blog post on Thursday. According to her retelling, on Wednesday morning, six men identifying themselves as being from a "joint terrorism task force" showed up on her doorstep. She believes Google searches by herself, her husband and her son raised red flags. "I had researched pressure cookers. My husband was looking for a backpack."
Here's the weird part:
A FBI spokeswoman told The Huffington Post that the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force was not involved in the matter and said the incident was handled by The Nassau County Police Department. A Nassau County Police spokesman told HuffPost he had no record of any officers visiting Catalono's home.
So it looks like either the blogger is lying, the police are conducting searches that are unaccounted for, or the "officers" were actually casing the house, looking for stuff to steal later. I've never heard of this happening, which is odd considering that the blog post said: "They mentioned that they do this about 100 times a week. And that 99 of those visits turn out to be nothing." You would think that something like this would be a bigger deal. Also, the correct answer when the police ask to enter your house is "Do you have a warrant?", not "sure, come on in". If you're going to roll over so easily, you make yourself a pretty big target for scammers and robbers.

 • We should blow her up to be sure. But seriously, do you know how expensive it would be to investigate everybody searching for pressure cookers? Also, the agents wouldn't give information about their operation. Sounds like bullshit to me.
