I think this post is stupid. 343i have their reasons for the cape, already confirmed that he is hiding from somebody. You know Destiny isn't the only Sci Fi thing to have Cloaks you know... Just like Star Wars! They have cloaks too!

Seems to me like wearing a cape/cloak in a space future like Halo to hide from someone would be counterproductive.

Well, we saw his visor cracked so I think it might also be to protect his armor. His shield could be disabled.
