343 is not copying Bungie. That's like saying Star Wars copied Star Trek because both transpire in space.
Also we have no idea if his suit is still sustainable. For all we know his armor could be failing, which is why he'd need to protect it from the elements.

It did look pretty beat up in the teaser. Pretty sure there was a hole in the visor of his helmet too.
