I've seen many people state incorrect things about transgendered people. I have a friend who's transgendered, and it makes me upset when I see people misuse terminology when it comes to her. So, let me tell you how it goes:
Background: my friend was born a male, but has always seen himself as a girl
He thinks of himself as a girl, and wants to be known as a girl, but biologically he is a male.
Boy/Girl are used for the gender you perceive yourself as.
Male/Female are used to state what sex you were born as.
EDIT:
Okay, I have edited the OP, to not use Wyldfyre as an example. I saw many people use incorrect terminology when it came to his sex and gender, and wanted to clear it up. However, many people got angry by that, even though calling out users (especially when it's not in a negative way) isn't against the rules.
I have changed the OP to be about my transgendered friend. Hopefully you guys forgive me for my blunder. I didn't mean to insult anyone, I just wanted people to use correct terminology. Sorry for the troubles.

>august 2013 holy shit you guys.

Whoever necrobumped this, you're an ass.

I think the term "transgendered," is an outdated insult really. It's trying to keep sex and gender linked, as if from the outset your gender has anything to do with your sex. The implication being that if transgender is to not have a gender that matches your sex then there must be some match between gender and sex in others. Obviously the two aren't linked at all. You shouldn't use the term, it's insensitive to the people you're trying to help. But yeah as for boy/girl/man/woman being gender terms, that's what some people want them to be now. Good to let everyone know.

The humble beginnings of someone who gets offended by everything. Social justice is a strange mindset.

*whistles* Damn. 2013.

................ I'm hiding from this storm

Lol, why is everyone getting so mad? I only made this thread because I saw many people make false comments about transgendered people, such as Wyldfyre, in another thread. I made this to inform others on correct terminology. Isn't "Boy/Girl" used to describe the gender you see yourself as, and want others to see you? In that case, Wyldfyre is a girl, yes? Isn't "Male/Female" used to address the sex you were born as? Thus, Wyldfyre is male? In what way am I wrong? How am I being an asshole? I only stated facts in the OP. No negative remarks were made, and you're all flaming me.

sorry op i dont believe in minorities
-
Song (title) is related.

I have noticed one problem, there isn't any specific word for say, a guy who identifies as a girl, and say, a guywho has has surgery and hromones to become a girl(hell, I don't even know if i should've said man or male, woman or female in that) - they're all just labeled trannies and ignored and that's pretty sad.
-
I can see where you're coming from, OP, but I don't understand why one just can't say 'My gender is female.', or 'I'm a boy by birth.' Both sentences establish what they're trying to say, whilst also using the words that should be used in the other fashion.
-
Why are you a creep OP?
-
Holy shit who cares? if you wanna be respectful, just call them what they want to be called. Good lord.
-
If she wants to be known as a girl, why do you keep referring to her as "he"?
-
This sums up OP nicely.

I honestly think of WyldFyre as Ditto since he/she refuses to explain what he/she is. Therefore, I just see he/she as an amorphous pink blob with no form, gender, or solid characteristics.

You care that much?

To be fair, he does look somewhat in between a man and a woman.
