Recently, I've gotten into a debate with leighmurBJJ over whether or not the Pokemon games qualify as being classic games.
He's arguing that the Pokemon games aren't classics because they're only played by "little ass kids", and because they're based off of "some weird-ass Japanese cartoon".
I've argued that a game can't be dismissed because of it's inspiration and playerbase, but we're still at an impasse.
Rather than just quarrel indefinitely, I thought it would be a better idea to ask you guys, the community, if you think the Pokemon games qualify as "classics".

"Classics" differ on the person speaking. The person you are talking about likely doesn't realize that what he doesn't enjoy may not be what everyone doesn't enjoy. Like wise, if he thinks the game is for "little ass kids" (which, it isn't. If you knew anything about the meta-game...Jesus), that doesn't mean everyone thinks that, therefore making it an opinion. And yes, Pokemon games are classics.
-
Of course Pokemon is a classic! Especially 3rd gen and earlier, but I really like the 4th gen remakes of SS and HG.
-
Maybe you shouldn't get into debates with 12 year old trolls. I don't think RPGs, especially one as complex as Pokemon, were made for kids, it just happened to catch their attention. And I'm pretty sure that the games came before the anime.
-
Haha so funny that everyone says yes.
-
I love how 100% of voters have voted it as a classic Pokemon 4 life
-
I think the person you're arguing with is 14 years old.

I'm in my 20's and I still play the Pokemon games, so does my girlfriend. Also, you may want to tell him that the anime came after the Gameboy games. The anime is based on them, not the other way around. It just proves how much he knows.

Has the gameplay changed in any way since pokemon red/blue? No. Then its got maore classic status then Metroid in my book.
-
Lol. Games came first, cartoon came afterward.
