So [not my own choosing] I was exposed to Trigun a few days ago. I'm not a huge fan of anime, since I find a lot of it childish. However, I noticed that Vash (the main character of Trigun) might be a inspiration for the Warlock in Destiny.
Vash fits the following description:
Swirling trenchcoat.
Hand-Cannon.
Borderline supernatural speed/senses.
Mild sci-fi 'wild west' environment.
Protector of the weak.
What is a Warlock?
A person with a helmet and a trenchcoat.
Hand-Cannon.
Magic.
Destiny is the wild west (watch the GDC interview).
Basically a do-gooder.
Compare the intensity/design scheme (obviously the Warlock is meant for space, Vash is meant for a desert)

Note that Trigun was made in 1998, and Bungie made an anime game a couple of years later (Oni) so it's not to far-fetched to think they would pull inspiration from Trigun for Destiny (as they already have with the Matrix)
So do you think the Warlock concept might have been inspired (in part) by Vash?

No. I know that anime, but really, the only major connection I can see that matches confirmed tropes of the warlock is a duster and a gun.
