It seems as though all of the great rock artists are dead or out of ideas. The awesome bands are in hiatus, and pop music is now more degrading and transparent than ever. And it is everywhere.
The once great rock artists of the past few decades have mostly gone soft, and the "rock" music that I hear now is very digital and the sound is compressed. Very few bands can get that dirty, hollow, rock sound.
So what does the flood think? Has rock music finally gone or is it just going through a bad phase?
Also, feel free to share and recommend your own favorite bands that you think are restoring rock to it's former glory!

I can't listen to any of that new pop stuff. I like AC-DC, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Rise Against, and some of the older Green Day songs.
-
wth dude op ur an idiot just leave
-
No, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Shinedown, Razor Red Noise are practically the leaders of not only rock but music as a whole, especially Linkin Park.

Edited by a SharkWithKnees: 9/3/2013 11:21:54 PMI know what your thinking. Soundgarden are back and they now ride Segway's. Iron Maiden and AC/DC have completed the transition to naff-rock. Korn did an album with Skrillex. Ian Watkins is a pedophile. Kerrang thinks that All-Time-Low is a rock band. Linkin Park took their foundations and decided to "Burn it Down". Brian May has single handedly ruined guitar solos forever. Robert Plant has moved on to folk. Fred Durst has grown a beard. The Rolling Stones haven't weathered well. Your favourite punk princess...has married Chad Kroeger. And to top it all off...
Ozzy Osborne is still alive.
But wait...out of the ashes! They have come to Save Rock and Roll...
and it's only f#cking Fall Out Boy ;_;
Shit

Stop listening to crappy radio stations. I have Sirius XM, which has at least a dozen stations dedicated to rock/metal.

" you can't kill rock and roll its here too stay " - Ozzy Osborne
-
I was gonna comment about it not being dead but now i just wanna ask you if that name of yours is after that metallica song? Cause i remember learning that and playing it with my friends, i got so many people into playing guitar, it was really cool.
-
Nope, you are probably only looking at big names, you need to go deeper, into the more obscure places of the music world to find the good stuff.
-
Dadrock like Led Zeppelin and AC/DC are shit. Listen to Alternative or actually look for modern metal/rock and you'll find good things.

Edited by Matte: 9/3/2013 9:59:19 PMAs long as stoner rock/doom metal is still around, it wont be dead to me.
-
I hate it when people say it is dead, it is nothing close to it. I would say it is going as strong as it was in the 80's. What is actually dying is the idea of Rock And Roll and how people perceive it.
-
Rush in head on my brothas!
-
Just because a genre isn't as popular as it was doesn't mean its dead.
-
Not as long as RHCP, Foo Fighters, Cage the Elephant, Cake, and many other bands continue writing music:
-
QOTSA, Tool, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, there are a lot of great artists still going. They're just out of the mainstream. The only sign I can see telling me rock is dead is that there are no new artists getting good at it. These days everyone gets into making shitty techno dubstep-type music, because it's a cheaper hobby.
-
First off, Pop music has been everywhere since forever, since pop music isn't a genre, it is the popular music of the time. Second, could you define the 'once great rock artists' for me? There are a lot of great rock artists, and a lot are still active. Third, bands like QotSA, Foo Fighters and Tenacious D are more popular than ever. Also, there are lot of Rock bands. Just search the Internet for more bands, instead of hanging around in your old music collection. Who knows, you may find something new and amazing.

Rock sugar baby!
