Is rock music officially dead?

It seems as though all of the great rock artists are dead or out of ideas. The awesome bands are in hiatus, and pop music is now more degrading and transparent than ever. And it is everywhere. The once great rock artists of the past few decades have mostly gone soft, and the "rock" music that I hear now is very digital and the sound is compressed. Very few bands can get that dirty, hollow, rock sound. So what does the flood think? Has rock music finally gone or is it just going through a bad phase? Also, feel free to share and recommend your own favorite bands that you think are restoring rock to it's former glory!

 • First off, Pop music has been everywhere since forever, since pop music isn't a genre, it is the popular music of the time. Second, could you define the 'once great rock artists' for me? There are a lot of great rock artists, and a lot are still active. Third, bands like QotSA, Foo Fighters and Tenacious D are more popular than ever. Also, there are lot of Rock bands. Just search the Internet for more bands, instead of hanging around in your old music collection. Who knows, you may find something new and amazing.
