I can kind of see why people might think it looks like borderlands but I think it's only because the e3 demo was in old Russia, which kind of had the same color palette of pandora. Other than that i cant see why. And borderlands has the cartoony look to it. What do you guys think?

I only played a little of Border Lands and certainly hope there's more friendly NPCs running around because walking into a town with no one in it and you're supposed to want to defend it or interact with it is right boring. Now fill this world with town folk and interaction and you got something worth investing in. As for Borderlands it's the only game that has the same equations in guns as treasure and a open post apocalyptic world. I think Bungie will do fine in setting their own experience above the rest.

I know, I agree in most cases when people say gameplay/graphics, but I just can't get into a game when it has that cartoon look to it (Other than The Walking Dead)

It's similar to borderlands

People aren't saying Destiny looks like Borderlands, they're saying they think it'll play similar.
-
Not nearly as cartoony.
-
People keep mentioning Borderlands because its gameplay sounds like the closest thing out there to Destiny. They're not saying Destiny looks like Borderlands, just that it sounds like it works in similar ways.

Also loot chests

Open world RPG FPS with tons of guns. That's we're people see the similarities.

I think they mean the multiplayer RPG/FPS mixed genre thing.
