Yea, THC is a psychoactive substance (it causes psychosis: A severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality). It's actually quite interesting.. the only reason you don't trip balls like acid and have your personality changed on you, is that cannabis also contains a substance called cannabidiol. Cannabidiol counteracts the effects of THC.

Cannabidiol is the element of cannabis that has currative properties and inhibits cancer cell growth.

It absolutely can not cause psychosis.

All stimulants can cause psychosis, so should we stay away from coffee too?

Edited by Paul Hammer: 9/9/2013 9:14:17 PMWell, too much of anything can be bad. People have died from drinking too much water, but we're not going to ban H2O. Sure, caffeine consumption may be an issue, although there is very limited evidence that it can cause psychosis with the doses that most people take on a daily basis.

Yeah but you're bashing mary for something that happens with big doses of it. You feel lethargic and chilled the whole experience. Moderation is key here.

Edited by Paul Hammer: 9/10/2013 6:53:35 AMLike I mentioned, MJ is a different drug than it used to be. It has on average 8.5 times as much THC content, and less Cannabidiol to reduce the psychoactive effects. Even so, I'm going to agree with you that moderation is key here. It can make some people feel chill, but it can seriously harm other people, and cause schizophrenia (as Dojo pointed out). In my opinion, weed would be safer if it were legalized. That way, you would know the %THC content you're getting.

Mhm. Psychosis sounds basically like a drug induced schizophrenia.

Edited by Paul Hammer: 9/6/2013 8:02:38 AMThat's exactly what it is. What's scary is that THC and Cannabidiol exist in balance in marijuana. If you grow cannabis to have more of one, it will have less of the other. And that's exactly what breeders have been doing. Marijuana is becoming more potent with each passing year, and more likely to induce psychosis! http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view.answers.php?questionID=000336 Marijuana used to have 1% THC content in the 1960's, but now averages at 8.5%. It's tested as high as 30%! It also has lower percentages of Cannabidiol to counteract the THC. We're smoking a different drug today.

I used to smoke, before I found that study I linked. It's funny, I was always searching for kush, when that's exactly what I should have been avoiding.

Yes, avoid at all costs
