Yes I posted this in the #gaming forum, but nobody goes there.
I just beat amnesia a machine for pigs and here are the following things that I disliked.
1. no inventory
2. no sanity meter
3. you can't pick up anywhere as many objects.
4. The monsters aren't scary, they're pigs.
5. it takes about 3 hits for most of the monsters to kill you. Amnesia : The dark descent's monsters take 1 to 2 hits to kill you.
6. The writing is terrible.
7. The story is terrible.
8. The game is too short.
Basically, when the developers were making this game, they said "ok, let's take out all the elements that made A dark Descent a great game, and take them out. We do not want this to be a good game nor do we want to scare people."

After seeing the game in its entirety, I'd say this was meant to be more of a story-driven game rather than immersion-driven. I can understand trying something new, but that should also mean adding to what the previous game gave us. As an Amnesia game, it was severely underwhelming. I'll agree with IslocStarkiller and say that Outlast was the better successor to the first game (I know it's not related to Amnesia whatsoever, but it might as well be). However, I LOVE the soundtrack. Not as good as the first, but it had some great moments.
The reveal in the elevator of the Machine coupled with the "Kyrie Eleison" opera was perfect. I also liked the moment when the Machine unleashes the Manpigs upon London while "Mors Praematura" plays over the harvesting. Then there's the finale where the Machine is conveying his cause to Mandus about the horrors of the coming 20th Century set to the song of a piano.
I know :( No custom stories either. The Chinese Room will pay! How could they do this? The Dark Descent was one of, if not the best horror game I ever played. Outlast being a close second.

I preferred Outlast because the immersion the devs reached is really terrifying.

I thought it was pretty frightening, so I'd say the developers accomplished their goal.

Just passing through... *Reads OP ...
Why the long face?

nor do we want to scare people.
Amnesia wasn't scary to begin with.

I agree.
