Ladies and Gentlemen, Let Us Discuss... the Piano. And Gaming.
I play the piano. I started 13 years ago. However, for the last two years I have touched my very (VERY) over-the-top fancy keyboard only a handful of times. So the other day I came across some YouTube videos of people playing covers of good cartoon and video game songs, like the Kingdom Hearts theme, or 'Go the Distance' from Hercules. I know plenty of Halo songs, but other than that I am quite limited.
The piano is one of the most capable instruments around of delivering an emotional impact via music. It can be powerful, soft, dramatic, mellow, and on. It is incredibly versatile. While I am certainly biased, I believe the piano is the greatest instrument for versatility and emotional projection around. Not that I think it can do that by itself, of course. Other instruments such as the Saxophone are certainly necessary.
So, internet. I would like your help. I would very much like to get back into practice. My skills have greatly deteriorated these last few years, and the only songs I can do are the ones I have muscle memory of (songs like Clocks, 100 Years, Piano Man, and lots of Halo songs to name a few examples). I would greatly enjoy getting some new sheet music.
Bnet. What are some powerful, impact-ful songs from your childhood or gaming history that would sound marvelous on the piano? Right now I have sheet music for 'Prince Ali' from Aladdin. I also have 'Skyfall.' I'd love to get the Kingdom Hearts theme, but I have had no luck finding the sheet music for it I can just download.
So discuss the piano as an instrument of emotion in gaming (ODST blew my mind!), and if possible name off some famous, classic songs our community would likely love to hear. Thank you!

From Halo itself, the Siege of Madrigal is always nice to hear. It features as an Easter Egg in Halo 3.

Zelda has some really good songs. Look up the ocarina of time title theme, song of healing, and midna's lament. They all are mainly for piano and are pretty simple, but the sound awesome if you really put in to it

Some great tunes to play are: Aquatic Ambience - Donkey Kong Country Main Theme - Assassin's Creed III Never Forget - Halo 3 (This is, undoubtedly, my favourite piece to play.) Dire, Dire Docks - Super Mario 64 (Another favorite of mine.) An End Once and For All - Mass Effect 3 ([i]Really[/i] easy, and the girls go [b]nuts [/b]because it sounds so good.) Ghosts and Glass - Halo: Reach Champion's Battle Theme - Pokémon Gold and Silver These are a few of many Video Game Theme songs I can recall. All of them are relatively easy (aside from "Champion's Battle Theme" and "Aquatic Ambience" which are mildly difficult). Nothing someone with your experience couldn't handle. Another suggestion. There's a 14 or 15 year old kid (who actually visits Bungie.net from time to time) named "Akmigone" on YouTube (and Bungie.net) who is just amazing at the piano. Sometimes he over does it, but if you want some suggestions, check out his channel. Best of luck. :)

1 ReplyEither the Fire Emblem theme and One Summer's Day by Joe Hisaishi. One of my biggest regrets is letting my piano skills wither and die. Man I use to be able to play a lot of Beethoven and the like along with some other little neat things like the StarWars theme damn near perfectly. I should really get back into it.

If you've seen The Blue Umbrella, the short film before Monsters University, then this should mean something to you. It was such a pretty film, and the soundtrack sounds simply lovely on Piano.
