Could this snippet from the returning episode of the Bungie Podcast be a brief hint at the age in which we'll be playing Destiny?
At the beginning of the latest Podcast (try 4:45) the first guest, Tom Doyle, is asked to explain his title of Art Lead.
He described himself as,
"The artist in charge of combat sandbox; weapons, vehicles, sometimes abilities... [An] illegal arms dealer from the 31st century."
He later refers to weapons bazaars and weapon-smiths. This quote (12:30-14:15) reinforced my opinion that his reference to the 31st century is in fact an indication of the current setting of the game:
"There is really beautiful aspirational artwork for what the city would look like under the traveler, like really kind of street level stuff. Most of the imagery that the public's seen had been up in the towers, up in Mount Olympus. Some of these images were very much down at the pedestrian level, in the streets... We thought of the gun bazaars in other parts of the world and places where there are military conflicts. And we were thinking, man, there's some master craftsman who's putting together your Duke... We want you to feel like there are these dudes under the City who are craftsmen, no different than a guy who forges a katana."
I had earlier surmised that the setting of the first Destiny title would be roughly around 3090.
--Scroll to the end of the spoiler from the related/inspiring, parent thread for a quick and dirty explanation that may lend some more evidence to why the game would be set in the 31st century.
The bit regarding the Duke (supposed to be an entry level weapon for Guardians) makes me think this is in reference to the current setting. Though, this could just as easily be in reference to the gunsmiths of the Golden Age.
Let me know what you think (I'm having a bit of trouble with the poll options at the moment) and feel free to start up a discussion even if it isn't exactly on topic.
