Cat ears are only obtainable by beating the game on the hardest difficulty with your eyes closed and hands tied to the chair with a bungie employee watching you.

I would like to have them early on though so I can play through the game with them.

I don't mind cat ears at all actually. I just wouldn't prefer sex or relationships in Destiny. But cat ears are fine, because I don't have to wear them If I don't want to.
