Cell phones in popular foreign education destinations such as the US and UK can be found at affordable rates. When you purchase a new phone, do not forget to take an international calling card with the help of which you can call back home and manage your communication costs.

Internet connection can easily be found anywhere when you go abroad. Finding a cheap internet plan is easy. Determine the usage of the internet before you take a plan. You may totally chuck the plan of taking a net connection if there is limited usage of the Internet. The best thing I could say is download skype or go to those internet cafes. From personal experience (Not studying, but just traveling abroad without my parents), all you need to do is go to an internet cafe, pay for about an hour, and then talk to them over through skype there. It's about $5, depending on the country. I got into an internet cafe for about $2.50 in the Philippines so I could call my mom because I was with my dad. However, in Japan, I had to pay about $10 to go into an internet cafe to talk to my mom and dad for one hour through skype.
