Bruno works as Lead Program Manager on Xbox Live, and he’s quick to point out that you can disconnect your Xbox One console from the network if you want to—Microsoft was quick to allow for that after the public outcry that followed their E3 anouncement that the Xbox One was designed to be online all the time—but some next-gen games will be handicapped if you don’t allow them to connect to Microsoft’s Xbox Live servers.
. . .
Forza 5 and Titanfall are the two most obvious examples—Forza downloads AI profiles for your opponents that are based on other players’ driving habits, while Titanfall taps the extra computational horsepower available on the Xbox Live servers to fill multiplayer games with AI-controlled enemies. But that’s just the beginning—Xbox Live allows developers to create dedicated servers, make changes or push updates to the portions of their game that is hosted online without bothering the player.
“Investing in dedicated servers is expensive, and can draw resources away from development,” said Bruno. “We’re focused on helping you [developers] make better online experiences because we want to be the best place to play multiplayer.”
. . .
If you like a particular multiplayer map and the developers change it, for example, you can’t just play the old version you love with like-minded players, or stay offline and play with AI opponents—you’ll have to log into the Xbox Live servers and play the new version. Worse, since you no longer have to remain connected to Xbox Live there’s no guarantee that every player will do so, and developers are unlikely to build games that take full advantage of a network of high-powered servers that some of their players can’t—or won’t—access.
I'm sorry, but developers rely constantly on game patching after a game has come out, even the good developers do, and that's completely ok for them to do so. If that wasn't there, then a lot of good games would have been ruined by now. So sure while "next-gen" Xbox One games will update...a little bit by the sounds of it...it sounds like Microsoft wants to get rid of game patches entirely.

You completely mis interpreted the way they said this. Since things like Titanfall will be connected to the Internet, there won't be a "patch" because it will just update automatically because of being connected to the Internet.
-
It seems like you are the victim of misinterpretation.
-
SERVER LISTS, BABY!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAA!
-
More uneducated shit posts i see. I'm not even going to correct you -_- remain ignorant bnet.
-
The article title is bad, just made to grab attention. All it's saying is that the way users update is no longer looking like a traditional "patch"
-
The amount of people that don´t have constant and reliable internet is so low that developers shouldn´t even have to worry about that.
-
It doesn't even imply that they want to get rid of patches.
-
I thought MS was planning to stream updates and patches in the background?
-
You realize that the only thing changing is the fact that everything done to a game is now automatic and you don't need to download an update anymore, right? There is absolutely no downside to this, think of it like how they implement hot fixes in Borderlands 2, or new matchmaking maps/ playlists in Halo. It is the exact same principle, just for everything. How can this possibly be a negative?
-
Do you even read what you write OP?
-
well, there goes Camnator's server lists...
-
>your title >your head
-
I dunno, all I see is: Xbox One's always online, so a mandatory downloadable patch isn't necessary.
-
Isn't the XboxOne expected to update Live randomly and it could happen while you're playing?
-
Where did you get that title from?
-
I don't see the big deal. All they're saying is that some games that use a shitload more resources from the XBL servers other than simple gamesaves and metadata will need a connection for the experience to be as fluid as possible. I don't understand how they're trying to get rid of patches at all. Why would they want to do that?
