Why does Halo 4 not feel like a Halo game?

I know it sounds weird, but now that Bungie left the Halo game series, it just lost something that made it good. How could 343 screw up this bad with such a great plot?

It was by all means different from all previous Halo titles but it still felt like a Halo game
