My recent reads:
Some Tom Clancy.
A Song of Ice and Fire.
Modern fantasy.
The Kingslayer Chronicles. (medieval fantasy)
50 Shades of Nope.
A few mystery books.
What I really want is this: I just watched the Tom Clancy The Division trailer and though "Hey, I'll go read the book." Well there is no book, so now I'm left craving a book about the apocalypse that doesn't exist.
I NEED A GOOD APOCALYPSE BOOK!
(please no teen fiction, as soon as soon as my literary tastes matured [about 14 hehe] I skipped the young adult section and moved right up to the real stuff. If it's really good teen fiction, I'll consider it, but I'm 18, too damn old for 'Younger Games')
I do mean to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but I'm not sure if it's my thing or not.
So, any suggestions would be great, Xmas break is fast approaching and I get 5 weeks off at my college, videogames won't be able to cut it for me.

The Way of Kings Apocalypse Book: Dies the Fire. It's pretty awesome, and it's a 14 book series, though they all get pretty samey after the second.
-
Here's some of my favorite authors: Steve Berry Matthew Reilly James Rollins I'd also recommend Clive Cussler and Tom Clancy, but only the books they wrote themselves. (Clancy everything before Dead or Alive, the last one he actually wrote was Teeth of the Tiger)

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? You've probably read it but hey I tried.
-
Read the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. 4 books, probably between 300-600 pages apiece, I don't really remember for sure. All are very well written, and while they're not quite the Apocalypse books you mean, I don't really like fantasy books and I still found them worth the read.

If you like sci-fi and physics I suggest Depths of Time.. I'm reading it now and it is pretty good...

Old Man's War. Funny, satirical, and smart sci-fi. It's like a more modern day Starship Troopers. Good visceral action too.

WOAHH HOW COULD I FORGET? THIS IS BOG ENOUGH OF A DEAL TO WARRANT A NEW POST INSTEAD OF AN EDIT SERIOUSLY! Okay, so, you basically have to read the Wool series by Hugh Howey! Its solo good. I recommend you get the Omnibus edition for Wool since its cheaper than buying each part by itself and each one is really short. The Omnibus edition is five parts and its about the size of a normal book. Anyways, read that first. Then after that, you'll probably figure it out but read the Shift series by the same author (its in the same universe as Wool) then read Dust which starts out the Silo saga which is again on the same universe. They're so good. And the fit your description perfectly. They're apocalypse and they're good. And they aren't YA. (They're not that mature but not YA) So good mang

My Antonia Very good book, I loved it. If you want a action one, Black Hawk Down is great too
-
"Younger Games" = Hunger Games? Because 18 isn't too old for that.
-
Holy Cow! I forgot to mention Stephen King's Dark Tower series! My personal favorite is The Gunslinger which is the first in the series and it has a much grittier and dark tone than the rest of the series, I'd recommend the non-edited version, it's much more potent as an individual piece. Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came.

Edited by Froggert: 11/29/2013 4:40:50 AMEnders Game Ready Player One World War Z That's all I could think of that I've read, liked, and fit your description closely enough to say. Edit: Also, The Secrets Of The Immortal Nicolas Flamel is good and has plenty of looming disaster. I'm not sure if its too YA for you though.

The girl with a dragon tattoo is definitely not meant for teens. It actually surprised me and was a decent read.

You may be interested in this too, OP.

Good grief get off those books and go play some halo or something

Well... You might like the Mistborn series... You could read ender's game... You could reread all the books you just posted...

The Wheel of Time.

Just to be clear, you want books about looming disaster, from any fictional genre?
