Dunno but they went away from the normal hollywood type award show to try and bring it into a more game related show because it's a show for gamers.
And people took the piss all the time out of the old format.

People complained about all the rubbish, stupid celebs that didn't know anything about games and the music from people like Snoop Lion. It's a new format, give it a chance, they can improve on it next year.
