Bump. Because this is relevant to Game Informer Destiny Cover Story from Dec/Jan that was recently rereleased for free: http://www.gameinformer.com/games/destiny/b/playstation4/archive/2014/04/04/a-player-39-s-journey.aspx

I really want someone to make a montage of him gripping the chair tightly, smiling, and saying "were not ready to talk about that yet" Oh its all very understandable, but the way he said it made me crack up everytime.

Edited by Big John: 12/10/2013 12:37:52 AMSounds like players will not want to limit themselves to online multiplayer only where the wholeness of the game is much more worthwhile. Sounds like a well-rounded Bungie game. I like that. a lot.

Edited by FairlySplendid: 12/10/2013 1:05:20 AMSo quick bullet-point breakdown: - Game-chat reserved to fireteam. XBL and PSN party-chat are used respectively in other circumstances. - Competitive multiplayer is woven into the game. You can't bypass the actual game and jump directly into competitive multiplayer. - To maximize progression/advancement you must participate in all modes. You can't grind competitive multiplayer. - One character, across the entire game. - Weapons and gear carry over. - If necessary/needed Bungie can nerf weapons in competitive multiplayer on the fly. - There's health and armor resistance. One depletes, then the other. - Faster kill times than Halo. Added, forgot to mention: - Potential of up to 6-man teams mentioned in certain instances. Corrected/fixed: fireteam and game-chat

So if i wanna just play mp, i cant just go to lobbies and search for matches? Thank you Bungie, for implementing something so fukcing stupid

^What I took away from it^

Some interesting info, but still cringe every time I hear, "we are not ready to talk about that yet."

Details.

Curious and curiouser. I do like the way he teased their abillity to react to dominant strategies, it sounds as if they've designed Destiny so that they can quickly make tweaks to the sandbox as though they were making tweaks to multiplayer maps. Arena might actually be a viable concept now.

Thanks for the link. Interesting about the voice chat. And that they let you go in with teams of 6. So I wonder if that means no BTB. And that piques my curiosity about raids, since 6 man raids aren't too big.
-
My initial knee-jerk reaction to all that talk about multiplayer being tied very closely to your single-player character was pretty negative. It's still pretty far from release though, so I'm hoping I'll begin to more clearly see Bungie's vision for this as they unveil more information.

Do I skip my anthropology final to watch? Hmm...

Edited by raveun2me: 12/9/2013 8:25:18 PMCan you shed a little light on What Lars said at 1:25 when asked about Multi-player and a Stock MP match. Lars said theres currently nothing like that where you could start up a match in 2 or 3 seconds. Could that mean that we would not be able to go into MP until we grow our character to a certain point? That confused me :-) COOL>>>>>You ONLY have Voice Chat with your FireTeam...YES!!!
-
Combat resolution. I do remember encounters in Halo where at some moment I just knew I already lost, but still the encounter lasts for another 2.0 seconds or so. I'm glad that Destiny will solve these faster, if I'm understanding correctly.
-
I have a few extra codes I wonder who I should give em to
-
Is there anywhere else I can watch the video? Doesn't seem to work on my phone.
-
That was interesting. I must say though... while I don't have a problem with having chat only with your fireteam by default, I don't like the sound of having to rely on platform specific chat options for getting more of your teammates in. Party chat has already made the lobbies of same games extremely quiet, and putting that extra barrier between chatting with the rest of your teammates will only make it worse. If you could just push a button to switch from "fireteam" to "team" for chat, that would be cool. But the idea of needing to go into your system menu, start up a party chat, invite the people you want, and wait for them to accept the invite, and then needing to do that every team you enter a multiplayer match? What a pain. Nobody will want to go through that and it's going to be really damn quiet.

I'm a little disappointed with that interview. He only answered like two questions. But thanks for the post!

Edited by Progo: 12/9/2013 8:32:25 PMI'm gonna leave that code for someone who doesn't already have 2 lol. Reading article... Compiling response... Dehydrating unicorns... "You only have voicechat to your fireteam" Nice! :D

Not really interested in any sort of PvP (unless there's bot support), but more info is always good.

what is the code?
