Hey all! I think this will be my last post on the Gameinformer info. I've churned through the recent stuff GI's put out and selected the juicy bits for your viewing pleasure. They're down below; now, on to Competitive MP.

For the sake of clarity, I'm going to refer to PvE missions as Campaign and PvP matches as MP. Since I didn't get in trouble for it last time, here's an excerpt from the magazine regarding MP matches:
[Paraphrasing: This is following a Strike, a quick Campaign mission that loads you up straight into a level, and then straight out into orbit once you've killed the boss and obtained your Loot]
From orbit, you decide it's time to test out the new gear against your fellow players, and proceed into several games of competitive multiplayer. Within the fiction, guardians fight against one another in support of various competing factions in the City, and battles play out in contested areas across the Solar System. "You are being employed by these factions," says design lead Lars Bakken. "The factions helped and were integral to the forming of the city. They are very interested in pushing guardians out into the universe, and helping them to reestablish and take back these places."
Competitive game modes in Destiny run the gamut, and show the same flair for clever construction that Bungie is known for, both in concept and evironment design. One battle pits groups of fire teams going head-to-head in a straight forward area capture style; holding any of the three points gives you scoring multipliers for kills, assists, and other actions.
After a few games capturing zones, you head into a smaller, deathmatch-style mode with and interesting tactical layer; points are awarded for kills, but also for finding your downed teammates and reviving them before they respawn -- presuming your enemies aren't camping the corpse.
Guardians begin competitive matches without access to heavy ammo, and occasional drops of the precious pick-ups are focal points for action. Maps have lots of verticality, and it's easy to reach high ledges thanks to the wide variety of vertical movement modes available to each class. Shifting environmental features add complexity, like giant mechanisms that move to alter sight lines, or even using the glare from the distant sun to approach an enemy unawares. The broad range of grenade types and supers on display keeps everyone on their toes, but ultimately the action is still focused on quick reflexes and smart weapon use.
TL;DR?
-MP is couched in the fiction. We're hired by different factions to claim areas around the Solar System. No clues on how deep that goes.
-Two gametypes revealed: One that sounds like Territories, but instead of getting points for owning areas, owning one gives kill, assist, and other multipliers. The other is straight-up deathmatch, but if you can find a teammate and revive them before they respawn, you get more points.
-Levels have an emphasis on verticality, there are large environmental changes that alter sight lines, etc.
-Lots of Grenade types
-Despite Supers, emphasis is still on gun play.

But wait... There's more!
Here's a summary of the video that I've posted above, it's really just 8 minutes of Lars talking, no new footage, good stuff, but here's the important bits:
-"There are systems in place" to make an overpowered weapon "less good" over time
-There is currently no system in place to start the game up and jump into MP in the first three seconds. (I think we'll have to go into the game world and select a match on our map, see the last bit of the Campaign Walkthrough)
-It plays faster than Halo games.
-Guns are more lethal than Halo, even normal weapons kill quickly, especially if you catch someone with "their pants down."
-Why? Apparently "Combat resolution" is fun. I don't agree there, but that's probably just me.
-We have an armor bar that protects our health. Armor sound like the substitute for shields. No word on if it recharges or not.
-Titans are only a tiny bit harder to kill than the others. The difference is almost inconsequential in MP.
-MP maps will be recognizable as "Bungie Maps," dynamic, emphasis on verticality, etc.
-There are big incentives to push you into Campaign. You'll be "pushed" towards Campaign.
-Not ready to talk about Custom Games, but "everything is possible" including potentially turning off Supers.
-Expect a well rounded MP playlist, similar, but more expansive than Halo games.
-Voice chat is only with your Fireteam by default. You can use the platform's Party chat.
-Max fireteam size for MP is 6 players, a large fireteam will be able to talk to each other. (I was really surprised by this one)
