Variable Mutes

So, as we all know, people tend to have changes in their posting habits, such as frequency, maturity, length, etc. However our mute option does not allow for such variance. Once you mute someone, they are muted, period. You can unmute them, but I find the process to be annoying. What do you think about maybe adding a mute length? When I mute someone, it usually is for a good reason, and most of the time, I don't want to unmute them. I have been noticing lately that I might have been too quick to judge on some people and think if I had had a 30 day mute option, or a 5 day mute option, I would have done that instead. There would still be a permamute for obvious alts or trolls, but sometimes you just need to not see a person's posts for a few days. What do you think Bungie? Would this be doable? Or does it even make sense to implement a system like this? I think the best way to do it would be a drop down list next to the reason why you muted them, with the first choice on permanent mute.

  • I want to say that we've talked about this already. If this conversation did exist I want to say that somebody from the webteam said that they thought about implementing this but for some reason it didn't work out. If I find the quote I'll post it.

    • I've said something like this would be nice in one of my Support threads at one time or another, the Mods and Web-Team never see anything over here though, they see it if they want to see it, so unless you can get one of them to look at it, they will otherwise never even see that you posted this.

      • I think this would be a good idea. I often find myself clicking on hidden posts to see if I feel I should unmute the user.

I agree My experience on Bnet would improve with this feature in place

I tend to be fairly strict with my mutes. Most of the time if I feel like "temporarily" removing someone, I just hide their posts when I see them, not to mention global muting working in the background as well. Muting is also intentionally buried in the UI, so you're less inclined to use it. You and me? We're the exception. Most people don't have a ton of mutes and we're being very particular with the way we're choosing to this feature. I think in the grand scheme of things, MOST people wouldn't care for such an option, nor would it cross their mind. Would it be okay? Maybe. I feel it just adds more clutter to an already cluttered UI and wouldn't serve a significant purpose that we can already perform with our current tools.
