Bungie didn't give up on Halo. They sabotaged it. Kill the soon to be competing franchise to make Destiny do better. Reach was the atomic bomb they carefully crafted to sink the sci-fi world of Halo to make room for fans to come to Destiny. Many now hate halo and while I don't see Destiny as the greatest thing since sliced bread many ex-halo fans do. This is at least what I will believe because Reach was underwhelming to say the least.
