Why do people get so butthurt over being called...

I am probably going to answer my own question. So, just take it as a rant. When ever somebody is called "Ignorant" or "Naive" they sometimes take it like an insult, when actually there is nothing really insulting about it. There are other instances where these words are used incorrectly. Like calling somebody ignorant for use of saying that he/she is stupid/retarded/dimwitted/etc. When really, it is none of the above. Ignorant and Naive mean that you are just not educated on a subject because you have not been exposed to it. It is like saying that I am naive/ignorant on how to fly a helicopter. So many people misuse these words... It is ludicrous. Did you guys already know this? Do you agree?

  • People often using it are ignorant of it's meaning ;) To call me "ignorant" for supporting natural gas production in the US, the person implies I know nothing about it. When in fact I have simply interpreted the same info differently. Now, if I told you "I freakin' hate Mr. Nachos restaurant!" and I had never actually eaten their food, then I am ignorant.

  • It really depends on how a person is using the word, regardless if it's correct or not. The tone of the voice when it's used can change the interpreted meaning. The same with the context of the rest of the conversation or even with whom it's said by. Even the medium that the word is used in can drastically change how it's interpreted. Short answer, any word can become/be an insult when used in such a way that provokes a negative reaction.

    • People often confuse ignorant with arrogant and naive with being stupid.

In the end, everyone is ignorant. It's called being human. If somebody calls you ignorant, they're just complimenting your humanity.

    • I think being a naif is a little different from being ignorant, but I agree. However, people are usually called ignorant when they try to demonstrate that have some knowledge in a subject; people don't like being told they aren't as smart as they otherwise think they are.

    • God you sound so ignorant on the subject you naive child.
Just joking. I agree with you. I mean we are only human we aren't going to know everything so being ignorant in a subject really means nothing since everyone of us is ignorant in something. Now, if you choose to stay ignorant over a new subject that you need to learn that just makes you stupid.
