I found out I beat the OG Animal Crossing long after I stopped playing it daily. It turns out that once you had every item of a certain type in your pockets, it gives you a star in Nook's catalogue for that category. Got those, perfected my town in the eyes of the fountain, all gold tools, finished the museum, paid off the house, maxed my hra score, replaced my trees one by one with gold ones, covered my town in flowers, the works. There was nothing left to do. It took years.
