Not really OP. Anyone who is going to be ESO will likely already have Xbox Live Gold.
There is only one, rare scenario where this is somewhat shitty, and even then its an entirely avoidable situation (will explain in detail later), but that scenario is if you were going to buy an Xbox One just for ESO. The whole reason you bought the Xbox One, just for that game alone.
Why is that the only situation possible? Well lets rule out other possible scenarios:
1. You never use an Xbox Live sub with your Xbox One anyways/you only use your Xbox One without XBL sub.
-Nope! Why? Cause the only thing you can do with the XB1 without XBL is watch movies or play games offline. Thats it! And there very few games out where a lack of XBL sub doesn't affect it. If you are doing anything different with your XB1, then you already have gold. This scenario is even more scarce than the aforementioned... has to be.
Thats really the only other scenario where this would suck. Both would be really rare cases, and both are entirely avoidable. If you only want ESO (and no other games on XB1), don't get it on Xbox One. Get it on PC/Mac/PS4. (Just for clarification, if you only want a console JUST for ESO, yes PS4 is better, however I doubt a large player base will be doing this.) Likewise, if you are mainly an offline gamer, don't get the Xbox One; or start being an online gamer. Xbox One is a connected system and is designed around Xbox Live. Having one without the other is simply redundant.
TL;DR: The only way this news sucks is if you are one of the extreme minorities in which you only want an Xbox One for ESO; or use your Xbox One without Xbox Live. Both of those unlikely situations are also entirely avoidable.
