Many on here may not be a fan of MLG/E-sports, but in the Halo days of old and the trend of CoD through the years, it has been proven that ranked playlists in multiplayer adds a hefty amount of fun to any competitive game.
With the recent news that Titanfall won't have these playlists, there's still a strong market out there for a new next generation competitive shooter to whip up a storm. Destiny should hopefully pick up from where Halo left off. Mark my words, the first console shooter to have a main focus on multiplayer/ranked playlists much like Halo 2/3 did, will be widely successful.
Who agrees, and to what degree? Discuss, but don't troll or complain. (Although this IS the internet)

i really want ranking system gameplay

For all those that don't think ranking of some sort matters I mean visible in game not on a website let's just look at newest game titanfall. Don't get me wrong there's a lot wrong with this game besides that but this progression crap is old and boring as hell. Most I know already quit titanfall because it's becoming meaningless. Now let's look back at halo2 and 3. These games were still played by 100s of thousands for 2 years til the new release. Name a fps that has lasted with that many players coming back for 2 years. Bring back some sort of social and ranked No harm with both . Win win for casual and competitive players

With destiny being an mmo fps, they will have that competitive aspect, and leader boards, but I can see them setting up something similar to the way blizzard has set up pvp in the past on wow with arenas and having the rewards cash out in the same way, because destiny is going to be a gear based game, so not everyone is going to be using the exact same gear leveled and spec'd the exact same way...so creating ranked playlists like on halo just won't work the same. In halo it was based solely on skill with weapons that everyone could have access to. Destiny is gonna be based on skill and strength of gear, gear yhat everyone may not be able to attain.

Hyper-competition + Anonymity + Loss Anxiety = Negative emotional pressure They call it 'sloping the floor' players will want to collaborate and be rewarded for positive interactions in the game. They've also built tools so that jerks won't ruin anyone's experience. We see some of that built into this website. You'll also want to play a ton in public events and general co-op before entering competitive arena which automatically makes it the best new IP of the year.

Edited by Vicex: 2/12/2014 5:43:58 PMCompetitive games are overrated. They used to be cool, but people don't cooperate and work as a team anymore- it's all about "my kill bitches"- even at the expense of winning. There once was a time where strangers could come together and make an awesome team- not anymore. Now you need people you know because anyone else is incompetent (and good luck finding time in the busy schedule of adult life to get a group on at the same time). Bungie should just ignore that feature entirely.

I don't see Destiny having "playlists" at all.
