Just a couple of minutes ago my cat jumped off of me and failed to land on the couch properly thus scratching the couch with her nails.
It's not a big deal to me. I mean.. it's just some scratches on a couch. It's just an object.
Luckily my family doesn't go that crazy about it.. But there is this feeling that they make it seem like something horrible has happened. :p

A friend of mine and I became room mates last summer. I'm really anal about keeping the place clean, but I don't really mind clutter. In fact, I leave a lot of my own shit lying around. I only get upset when it gets unhygienic. Or when he scratches my fucking couch.

Who buys expensive furniture anyways?

They go nuts when I eat on the couch.

Cloth couch. Just have to worry about the dog drooling all over it like he's prone to do.
It's not a big deal to me.
You obviously didn't pay for the couch. Wait until it's 'yours' and you paid for it, then see how you feel about it. Until then - Their house, respect their rules.

My family gave up on scratch free couches a long time ago.

Yeah, when I have my own place if my couch gets a little scratched I'll be fine with it. As long as it serves its function as a couch.

I went nuts when my cats scratched my furniture Why? Because a couch can cost 500-2000 plus USD. A cheap TV stand is 200+ It's a lot of money that I worked for. I don't want it torn up because my animals can't behave. It's ugly and horrible and shows when guests visit. That's not something I want their eyes to linger on.

It depends. Is the couch leather or fabric?
