How long have you been working towards the goal of being an artist? Do you plan on doing 3D modeling as well? Lastly, how do those computer drawing tablet things work?
I ask because I found that I don't really care for my current co-op job except for the CAD work part if it. And the reason I started engineering in the first place was because of vidjamagames. So I decided that maybe in a year or so after I graduate I'll either go back to school and/or just learn in my spare time how to draw and do the whole design thing.

Art is a suicidal job to get into. You have to really want it and ready to accept that there are huge pit falls especially for free lancers. I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil. Because I was fairly different from my class mates I would either act out (which got my many referrals) or draw to keep myself occupied. I've been drawing digitally a little over two years now. Almost three. The tablets work fairly close to pen and paper. You hold it on your lap or desk and just draw. It has a wishywashy learning curve however and can take a decade or more to truly master. Hand eye coordination to the max

Yeah I'm gonna hold onto my day job. But if I ever get half as skilled at it as I want to be and I can find somewhere to hire me I would probably switch in a heartbeat.
