    I don't think it's dependence on technology, I think it's about people basing their self-worth off social media. I remember reading something about young people who use Facebook a lot have lower self esteem, because they're essentially comparing their own average lives to other people's life highlights posted up. There's also those people attention-seeking, or 'fishing for likes' on Facebook. Heh, I remember a few years back when people at school seemed to be in competition to get more 'Luv' on their profile on Bebo.
