In my opinion I thought call of duty was a good game, it had it's own niche in the shooter industry with it's slew of differ guns and it's kill streaks setting it apart from other shooters. I personally wasn't a hugs fan but I respected it for what it was.
But now I despise it. It has worked it's way into every other shooter out there. For example halo was altered due to CoD, they added sprinting and in halo 5 they even went as far as kill streaks and added a choice of a starting weapon. Thus they ruined halo and traded the original ideal gameplay for a cod hybrid. Since that many other games have taken an altered state. And now most games aren't made without an iron sight capability.
I am just one of a vast gaming community so my real question is, did call of duty ruin the Fps genre ?

Did WoW ruin MMO? Vote with your wallet and when an event is held vote with your feet. It's that simple.
-
No. There are still good and creative FPS games. Plus, Call of Duty helps remove the worthless teammates from other games.
-
Well I do agree that it ruined halo 5 with all that bullshit but iron sights and sprinting is just kinda basic with shooters even though cod pretty much started it. But I do believe there is still hope for fps's

-
No. COD 2, Mordern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 are amazing.
-
No it didn't.
-
Depends on how much you liked Medal of Honor.

Edited by Im Panther Land: 2/28/2014 1:29:17 AMwtf are you special? how is sprint in halo 4 bad and plus every goddamn game has sprint its not from cod also holy hell speak english please
-
No, they helped popularise it, we all owe the franchise a lot, but no one cares about it anymore, its not damaging fps, in fact all it does is make everyone else look better
-
Developers trying to mimic CoD ruined the industry.
-
Like it or not, times change. Fast paced, twitch gameplay is popular. Many people seem to forget that a lot of money from games (and sales) comes from those who aren't Uber-Harcore-MLG practicers and just want a game they can pick up or put down without much effort.
-
No. Just like when Halo CE came out it innovated console shooters and other developers adapted to its style. Cod is no different, it used a formula people liked and so other developers have learnt.

I would say Call of Duty contributed the most to the slow decay of FPS starting with Modern Warfare. The original Call of Duty games that took place in WWII I found to be somewhat educating.
-
No cod did get FPS off the ground for console games. Through not trying to be a new game it killed itself I have a feeling that if the next call of duty does not sell well we can see it go away.
-
No it ruined it self. CoD us just a classic basic shooter with a few boosts for the players. Nothing cool or new just a cheap game that people play, it's as like Angry Birds- cheap, fun at first, and over-rated.
-
No but campers and glitchers killed fps seems like treyarch and infinity ward started to realize most of thier fans r cheaters y push them away y not cater 2 them so camping and glitching could of killed fps
-
No, the copycats ruined the FPS genre.
-
I liked MW2. Nothing else.
Except COD4
-
It didn't hurt anything, it was the game people wanted, so the publisher made sure the game didn't change much. It's a natural part of the entertainment market, the mass produced games that everyone likes to some extent, and then the more niche games that attract select groups of gamers.
-
The bullshit between CoD and BF fans ruined both games.
-
Edited by MacKinder: 2/27/2014 8:12:16 PMI never liked the mentality of "we did it first so everyone else is copying us." CoD Ghosts should have come out sooner because the series died a long time ago.
-
I think CoD ruined a wealth of good games
-
No it's just the same thing every year and now it's just boring as hell
-
No, lazy and pandering developers did.
-
cod4 was legend they killed them selves they screwed their own game and do it every year and people try to make excuses or cover it up but inside they dying for an actual new game
