You might have heard recently that Measles, after being eradicated in the US 14 years ago, has returned with cases reported in New York, San Diego, Boston, and Vancouver as well. Given that the efforts of anti-vaccination groups seem to be unfortunately paying off, do you think there should be an added incentive for parents to vaccinate their children? Specifically, if a child is not vaccinated, the parent or guardian should receive fewer, or be less-eligible for, state-sponsored benefits and services, such as welfare payments, schooling (such as exclusion from enrolment), child care, etc... with the exception of medical, and only medical, reasons.

 • If you want to start blaming groups for this event, start with; - the US and UK legal system for paying out claims (and thus giving merit) - the Lancet for publishing un-edited and un-reviewed articled. The doubts against the user of MMR vaccines can all be traced back to an article published in the Lancet. The article had no peer review and not fact checking done by the Lancet itself (who later published a retraction - albeit too late). The author was later fined and bared from medical practice as he had published the article only for commercial gain - he wanted the combined vaccine to fail, as he could then use his involvement in the single antigen for his own gain. Sadly none of this was explained to the general public. To make that worse both the US and UK legal system paid out on invalid claims, in doing so given merit to these false beliefs.
