Question about network requirements

I have the game pre-ordered, And i had a question about the online requirements! I know the game has a Single Player mode that requires an active connection for the Persistent World, But i really need to know if the single player mode is handled client side, or if the Enemies, Objects, and player movement are handled server side. My internet has a latency of around 1000ms (1k), So unless its all handled client side, I won't be able to play. Please let me know, so that i don't fully pay off a game i won't be able to play. Thanks!

  •
I know the game has a Single Player mode that requires an active connection for the Persistent World
I believe that's incorrect. Although you can play by yourself, there is no single player mode, and you'll still see other players in the public spaces. Bungie may include a way to remove your game from matchmaking, but I don't believe they've announced anything.
But i really need to know if the single player mode is handled client side, or if the Enemies, Objects, and player movement are handled server side.
Again, there is no single player mode. As for the networking, Destiny uses a hybrid P2P/client-server architecture that is constantly searching for the configuration that will provide the best experience. You can read more about it here.
My internet has a latency of around 1000ms (1k), So unless its all handled client side, I won't be able to play.
That's pretty big lag... I wouldn't be surprised if it creates some problems in the game, but they may just be confined to the public spaces, where your game intersects with others. Definitely try the beta and see if it's playable. If not, cancel that preorder.

  • They have stated it will be peer to peer hosted, and that adventuring parties will be hosted by specific players. I think that means that solo everything should be handled by your console. Idk for sure though, so id reccomend playing the beta to see how it works. If its utterly unplayable then just cancel the order. Hope i was able to help/alleviate/provide answers to some of your concerns.

    • They have said that your system does a lot of the work for running the game, though I don't know how much that would help you.

    • We unfortunately don't have that information at the moment, it will definitely become more clear as we head towards the Beta.
